The thing children notice first about a tractor is that its back wheels are much bigger than its front ones, and they are right to notice, because it is the most visible size contrast on any vehicle they are likely to meet. That contrast is doing real work on this page: two wheels, obviously different, side by side, is the clearest comparison a two-year-old can be handed.
Behind the tractor is a trailer of hay bales, and the bales are graded — some large, some small, stacked rather than lined up. Colouring them means going around curved edges that touch each other, which is harder than it looks and is exactly the control a child needs before letters stop wobbling.
The rest of the scene is deliberately loose. A fence, a haystack, some sky. After the wheels and the bales, which reward care, there is somewhere on the page where care is not required, and a child can finish rather than abandon it.

How to Use This Coloring Page
- Compare the two wheels first. Put a finger on the big one, then the small one, and say which is which before any colour goes down.
- Do the bales in two shades. Alternating light and dark across the stack makes the individual bales visible in the finished picture instead of one yellow mass.
- Save the sky for last. It is the largest and most forgiving area, and ending on an easy stretch is what makes a child ask for the next sheet.
