Christmas Stocking Coloring Page
About This Coloring Page
A stocking is the simplest Christmas shape there is — one big sock — and that is exactly why it works for the youngest children. There is one large area to fill, with a clear edge all the way round, and a child who is still learning to stay inside a line gets a lot of practice on a shape that forgives them.
The fireplace behind it is a grid of bricks, and bricks are the quiet hero of this page. Each one is a small rectangle with four edges, dozens of them in neat rows, and colouring them one at a time — or every other one — is pattern-making and fine-motor control in a single sitting. Nobody has to call it either of those things.
The teddy bear and the candy cane peeking out of the top give the page a small story. Something has already been put in the stocking, which raises the only question that matters to a four-year-old in December. The two ornaments on the mantel and the snowy window behind are there for children who want more to do.

How to Use This Coloring Page
- Colour the stocking first, in one colour. One big shape, one crayon, all the way to the edge. Finish it before anything else so the page already looks done.
- Do the bricks every other one. One coloured, one left, like a chessboard. It takes a while, and that is the point.
- Stripe the candy cane with two crayons. This one, then that one, round the hook. A pattern a child can see coming.
