- Ask what the kitten is up to. Let them tell you before a single crayon comes out. The story they invent is what they will be colouring towards.
- Colour front to back. Kitten first, then the yarn, then the window. Working from near to far teaches how a picture holds space, and stops the page feeling aimless.
- Save the window panes for last. Small straight shapes need the steadiest hand. Leaving them until the end means they get the attention rather than the leftovers.
- Add whiskers with a fine pen. Handing over a thin pen for the final details is a real mark of trust, and children treat the page differently once they have it.
