Snow Globe Coloring Page

About This Coloring Page

A snow globe is a picture inside a shape, and that is what makes it a good page for a small child: one very big circle to understand first, then a whole tiny world to find inside it. The house, the two trees and the falling snowflakes are all small, bounded and easy to name, and the base underneath is one wide flat band for a child who wants a big area to fill.

The circle is the first lesson. Trace the glass with a finger all the way round before any crayon comes out, then colour the sky inside it and stop at the edge. Staying inside a curve that long is harder than it looks, and it is the same control a child needs to write a round letter.

The snowflakes are the fine-motor work: lots of small shapes scattered through the sky, each one its own tiny target. Ask what happens when you shake the globe, and whether the snow inside is real, and the page turns into a conversation about what is inside and what is outside, which is a bigger idea than it sounds.

How to Use This Coloring Page

  1. Go round the glass first. One big circle with a finger, then with the crayon. The whole page is inside that line.
  2. Colour the house and the trees before the sky. Small shapes first, big space last. Then the snow stays paper-white against the sky.
  3. Ask what is inside and what is outside. The bow is outside. The snow is inside. A four-year-old will argue about the base, and that is the point.
