A bear is the large wild animal a young child is least frightened of, because almost every bear they have met so far has been a toy. That is useful. It means they will sit with a bear on a page long enough to notice what a real one is actually like — heavy, round, low to the ground, built completely differently from the animal they sleep next to.
The pose is doing the teaching. This bear is not standing and posing; it is sitting in a stream with one paw out towards a fish. A child who colours it usually explains what is happening before they finish, and explaining a picture is a better use of the twenty minutes than colouring it neatly.
The stream is the only hard part, and deliberately so. Water drawn as a few looping lines has no edges to stay inside, which is a genuinely different problem from every other shape on the page. Some children fill it, some leave it, and both are correct.

How to Use This Coloring Page
- Ask what the bear is about to do. The paw and the fish are close enough together to make it a real question, and the answer is a whole sentence.
- Colour the paw pads separately. They are four small circles inside a bigger shape, which is the finest control this page asks for.
- Compare the bear to the fish. Two animals on one page at wildly different sizes is the easiest way into a size conversation.
