Christmas Wreath Coloring Page
About This Coloring Page
A wreath is a circle, and a circle is the first shape most children learn to name and the last one they learn to draw. This page gives them a very big one to work round: leaves all the way along the ring, a bow at the top, and the flat panels of the door behind it for a child who wants a large area to fill with one colour.
The leaves are the fine-motor work. Dozens of small pointed shapes, each one with its own edge, going round and round the ring. A child can do them all one colour, alternate two, or pick out every ornament first and leave the leaves for later. There is no wrong order, and the shape still reads as a wreath whichever parts are finished.
The bow is the part children usually save for last, because it is the part that looks hardest and is not. Two loops and two tails, each a wide open shape. The pine cones tucked into the leaves are a small observation lesson: ask where pine cones come from, and what the leaves on the wreath are, and the answer connects the page to the tree outside.

How to Use This Coloring Page
- Go round the ring once before anything else. Point and trace the whole circle with a finger, then with the crayon. One big loop is the shape of the page.
- Pick out the ornaments first. Small round shapes, one colour each, spaced round the ring. Finding them is a looking game; filling them is control.
- Do the leaves in two colours, every other one. It takes a while and makes a pattern. Nobody needs to call it that.
