Vehicles are the most reliably asked-for thing in this library, and the fire truck has been carrying the whole emergency-vehicle category on its own. A police car is the other one every child can already name, and the two of them together make a conversation possible that neither makes alone: who comes when something goes wrong, and which one comes for which thing.
The traffic light is the second subject hidden on the page. Three lamps stacked in a column, each one a different colour, each one meaning something specific. Colouring it in the right order is a small piece of real-world knowledge that a child can then test on the way to the shops.
The star badge on the door is the finest work on the sheet — a five-pointed shape small enough that staying inside it takes deliberate effort, sitting on a large flat panel that does not. Having both on one page means a child can move between careful and easy without stopping.

- Do the traffic light in order. Red at the top, amber in the middle, green at the bottom. Ask what each one means before colouring it.
- Save the badge for last. It is the smallest shape on the page and the one most worth doing with a warmed-up hand.
- Talk about who drives it. Community-helper talk is easiest with the vehicle already on the table in front of you.
