Ice Skates Coloring Page
About This Coloring Page
Ice skates are the winter shoes with a blade where the sole should be, and the page draws them the way a child sees them lined up by the door: two boots standing together, laces criss-crossing all the way up, blades underneath, and the frozen pond they are about to go out on.
The boots are two big rounded shapes, one each side, easy to fill with a fat crayon, and they are the same shape twice, so the question of whether they should match comes first. The laces are the careful part: a ladder of short crossing lines to follow up one boot and then the other, the same control as the strokes that turn into letters.
Ask what the blades leave behind on the ice. A line, and a four-year-old will draw it for you across the pond, which is the whole page turned into a story about the first time they fell over.

How to Use This Coloring Page
- Decide if they match before you start. Two boots, the same shape. Same colour or different; either is right, saying it is the plan.
- Follow the laces up, one cross at a time. Short lines that cross. Start at the toe and climb; it is a pre-writing stroke with a reason.
- Draw the line the blades leave. Across the pond, in whichever direction they skated. Then ask who fell over, and how many times.
