Koala Coloring Page

Ages 2-7 Printable PDF

About This Coloring Page

The koala is the hugging animal, and that is how a child draws it and how this page draws it: one round body wrapped round a branch, two round ears on top and a big round nose in the middle. There is almost nothing on the page that is not a circle, which makes it one of the easiest animals on the shelf for a two-year-old to fill.

The body and the ears are big bounded areas for broad strokes, and the fluffy edge of each ear is a row of tiny bumps for an older child who wants to be careful. The branch is one long shape running under the koala, and the leaves around it are small open shapes for whoever finishes early.

A koala also comes with a fact worth saying out loud: it sleeps most of the day and it is not a bear, whatever anyone calls it. A child who learns that at the kitchen table will correct everybody for a week, and the page becomes the animal they know something about.

How to Use This Coloring Page

  1. Do the body in one go. One big round shape, one colour. Finish it first so the page already looks like a koala.
  2. Go round the ears slowly. The fluffy edge is lots of small bumps. Follow them one at a time; that is the careful part.
  3. Ask what it is holding on to. A branch. Then ask what it eats, and whether it is a bear. It is not.
