Rhino Coloring Page

Ages 2-7 Printable PDF

About This Coloring Page

The rhino is the one with the horn on its nose, which is the first thing every child points at, and the page puts it in the middle of the picture: a big friendly rhinoceros standing in tall grass, one horn, two small ears, a bird sitting on its head, a round sun and a tree behind.

The body is one big rounded shape for broad strokes, the legs are four thick columns to count, and the horn is a single triangle for whoever wants the careful part. The grass is a row of short upward strokes along the bottom, the same flick a child uses for the first marks that turn into writing.

Ask what the horn is for and how many legs a rhino has. Then ask why the bird is allowed to sit there, and the page becomes a story about the big animal and the small friend who keeps it company.

How to Use This Coloring Page

  1. Count the legs first. Four thick ones. Touch each and say the number before any colouring starts.
  2. Fill the body in one go. One big rounded shape, one colour, horn and ears the same or different.
  3. Flick the grass along the bottom. Short strokes upward, one next to the other. Then the sun, then the bird on its head.
