Snail Coloring Page

Ages 2-6 Printable PDF

About This Coloring Page

The snail is the animal a child finds after rain and is allowed to pick up, and the page draws it big and close: a round spiral shell on its back, a soft body stretched along a leaf, two feelers on top of the head, a small flower beside it and a round sun above.

The spiral is the whole point of the page. A child traces it with one finger from the outside in, which is the same curl they will use for the first letters, and then colours the bands between the lines one at a time. The body is one long soft shape for broad strokes, and the leaf is a single wide shape with a vein down the middle.

Ask where the snail is going and how long it will take to get there. Then go and find a real one on the next wet morning, and the page becomes the slowest animal they have ever watched.

How to Use This Coloring Page

  1. Trace the spiral first. One finger from the outside edge round and round to the middle. Then do it again with a crayon.
  2. Colour the bands between the lines. One colour per band or all the same. Staying inside a curve is the practice here.
  3. Body, leaf and sun last. One long soft shape for the body, one wide shape for the leaf. Ask what the feelers are for.
